Turkey Cuts Off All Relations with Israel

Turkey has officially cut all ties with Israel, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Wednesday.

“The Republic of Turkey, under my leadership, will no longer continue or develop relations with Israel,” Erdogan said during his return flight from Saudi Arabia. He emphasized that his ruling coalition is committed to this decision.

    Diplomatic and Trade Relations

Despite this announcement, Turkey still maintains diplomatic relations with Israel, although a trade embargo has been in place since May. Turkish diplomatic missions in Tel Aviv remain open, even though Ankara recalled its ambassador last year.

Israel, citing security concerns, evacuated its embassy in Ankara last year, further straining ties between the two nations.

    Erdogan’s Stance on Gaza

Erdogan vowed to hold Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accountable for his actions in Gaza, which international human rights groups have described as genocide.

Earlier this year, Turkey supported Palestine in a genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Erdogan also pushed for an arms embargo against Israel, underscoring Turkey’s firm stance on the issue.
