Pakistan names squad for first Test against England in Multan

Pakistan announced their 15-player squad for the first Test against England, with fast bowler Aamir Jamal returning. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed this in a press release on Tuesday, stating that selected players would skip the Champions One-Day Cup playoffs to rest before the series.

The first Test is scheduled in Multan from October 7 to 11. The squad will gather in Multan on September 30, and the training camp will start on October 1.

    Who’s in?

Shan Masood (captain), Saud Shakeel (vice-captain), Aamir Jamal, Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Huraira, Mohammad Rizwan (wicket-keeper), Naseem Shah, Noman Ali, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed (wicket-keeper), Shaheen Shah Afridi.

    Who’s out?

Left-arm spinner Noman Ali replaces injured Khurram Shahzad. Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Ali, who were part of the Bangladesh series squad, have been dropped. They are advised to continue playing in the Champions One-Day and President’s Cup starting October 3.

Aamir Jamal last played in a series against Australia, where he took 18 wickets in three matches. He was named player of the match for his 82 off 97 and 6/69 performances.

Pakistan enters the series after a tough defeat against Bangladesh. This marks their 10th consecutive winless home Test and follows poor exits from both the 50-over and T20 World Cups.
