The University of Karachi has awarded an honorary doctorate (honoris causa) to Dr. Zakir Naik, a well-known Islamic scholar and speaker. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who also serves as the university’s chancellor, presented the degree in recognition of Dr. Naik’s contributions to promoting Islam.
Dr. Naik, currently a state guest in Pakistan, is visiting the country at the government’s invitation. During his stay until October 28, he will deliver public addresses in cities such as Lahore and Islamabad. He has already met with senior government officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and spoken at an event in Karachi.
Governor Tessori commended Dr. Naik’s involvement in Islamic debates and expressed hope for his continued efforts to spread Islamic teachings. The convocation ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including consul generals, the Sindh Higher Education Commission chairman, university staff, and faculty members.
The University of Karachi’s Syndicate approved the honorary doctorate to acknowledge Dr. Naik’s significant service to Islam.
