PTI leader Azam Swati was re-arrested on Tuesday, just moments after being released from Attock Jail. Authorities reportedly took him to an undisclosed location. Swati’s initial arrest involved multiple charges, with 22 cases registered against him at the Taxila police station.
The Islamabad Anti-Terrorism Court had granted Swati bail on Monday. However, he, along with PTI founder Imran Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, and others, was already booked in various cases from October 8, including one regarding the death of a police officer during PTI’s protest in Islamabad.
On November 1, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) nullified the trial court’s decision to grant Swati’s physical remand in eight cases, instead remanding him to judicial custody. The IHC bench, consisting of Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, heard several petitions from Swati’s counsel against ATC Judge Abul Hastat Zulqarnain’s decision to extend the remand.
Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb later regretted his previous remarks about Judge Zulqarnain, acknowledging he should not have made those comments in the judge’s absence.
