New York’s rising Democratic star Zohran Mamdani has directly confronted former U.S. President Donald Trump following his election victory speech.
Addressing cheering supporters, Mamdani said, “Donald Trump, since I know you’re watching, I have four words for you: turn the volume up!”
Mamdani’s bold remarks came as Democrats swept local races, marking their biggest win since Trump’s return to power nine months ago. The New York legislator promised to counter Trump’s policies on immigration, housing, and economic inequality — calling his agenda “a fight for the people, not the powerful.”
Trump had earlier threatened to withhold federal funds from New York if Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, took office. In response, Mamdani vowed to defend his city’s rights and resist political intimidation.
“To get to any of us, you’ll have to go through all of us,” Mamdani declared, drawing thunderous applause from the crowd.
