Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, were acquitted in the iddat case on Saturday by a local court in Islamabad. This acquittal raises the question of whether they will be released from Adiala jail today as the district and sessions court ordered.
The answer is yes. There is no obstacle to their release now. While there are many other cases against Imran Khan, he has secured bail or suspended his sentence.
Despite getting relief in other cases, including the £190 million reference and Toshakhana, and being acquitted in the cipher case earlier this month, Imran Khan remained in jail due to his conviction in the iddat case.
Now that this case has concluded, he could be released from jail.
It’s important to note that there are over 200 cases against Imran Khan, including several related to the May 9 incident when Jinnah House and some Army offices were attacked by angry mobs following his arrest. However, in most cases, Khan has secured bail.
