WhatsApp Adds AR Features for iOS Video Calls

WhatsApp adds new augmented reality (AR) features to its iOS app, enhancing video calls with interactive effects and filters. The latest update, accessible through the WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.17.10.74 on TestFlight, brings iOS users closer to the level of personalization and engagement Android users have been enjoying.

With these new AR tools, users can now personalize their video call experience by applying dynamic facial filters that change the colour tone of their video in real time. A background editing tool that lets users blur their surroundings or choose from pre-designed backgrounds making video calls more personalized and visually appealing.

Another essential addition is the low-light mode, which boosts visibility in dim settings, making it easier to communicate during evening calls or in places with poor lighting. Additionally, the touch-up mode subtly smooths skin imperfections, giving users a polished look, whether having a casual chat or participating in a more formal video call.

To ensure a consistent experience, WhatsApp now remembers your previous settings, including your chosen backgrounds and colour filters, for future video calls. This means you won’t need to reapply your preferred settings each time you start a new call, adding convenience to your personalized video calling experience.
