West Indies made history in One Day Internationals (ODIs) by bowling an all-spin attack for the full 50 overs against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla Stadium on Tuesday.
The former world champions delivered a spin masterclass, conceding just 207 runs while claiming seven wickets. Their only pace bowler, Justin Greaves, was not used at all during the innings.
This remarkable performance broke the previous record held by Sri Lanka, who bowled 44 overs of spin in ODIs on three occasions — against West Indies in 1996, New Zealand in 1998, and Australia in 2004.
For Bangladesh, Soumya Sarkar top-scored with 45 runs, while Rishad Hossain played a late cameo, smashing an unbeaten 39 off just 14 balls, including three sixes and three fours in the final overs.
Rishad added 50 runs for the unbroken eighth-wicket stand with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who remained not out on 32 from 58 deliveries.
The historic all-spin strategy by the West Indies has now set a new benchmark in ODI cricket, showcasing their growing confidence in spin-friendly conditions.
