TLP protests in Karachi? Minister clears the air after public concern

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar has assured citizens that Karachi remains peaceful and fully under control, dismissing social media rumours about unrest and protests by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

In a statement on Monday, the minister urged the public not to believe false reports or provocative content spreading online. He warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to create panic or spread misinformation.

The clarification came after social media was flooded with claims of TLP sit-ins across Karachi, just hours after Punjab returned to calm following earlier unrest.

Lanjar said that no protest or sit-in is taking place in any part of the city. He directed the police to stay alert, ensure deployment at key locations, and keep anti-riot units on standby. The traffic police have also been instructed to maintain a smooth flow of vehicles and coordinate closely with law enforcement agencies.

The home minister emphasized that anyone challenging the writ of the state will face legal action under Section 144, reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining law and order.

The Karachi police also confirmed that the city is calm, saying that some shops in certain areas were closed due to unverified rumours, but the overall situation is normal and stable.

Lanjar reiterated that peace prevails across Karachi, and the security forces are maintaining a strong presence to ensure public safety.
