TikTok is expanding its features to compete with popular messaging services like WhatsApp and Apple’s Messages. The platform announced adding group chats, allowing users to create groups with up to 32 participants to chat and share content.
However, the group chat feature has age restrictions. Users aged 13 to 15 won’t have access, while those aged 16 to 17 can use it with some limitations. Teens in this age group can only join a group chat if they mutually follow the friend who adds them. If a link to join is sent, they can only participate if one of their friends is already in the group.
TikTok is also providing tools to mute and block members in group chats. Users can report individual messages or entire groups that violate the platform’s policies.
Additionally, TikTok is introducing stickers for direct messages.
