    Rawalpindi Electric Bus Service: Details About the Routes

    The Rawalpindi administration has approved the launch of 102 electric buses to cover an 84-kilometer area across the city. This eco-friendly transport system will operate on four routes, aiming to provide residents with a sustainable commuting option.

    Here are the details of the routes:

    • Route 1: Islamabad International Airport to Railway Station, covering stops like GT Road, Kohinoor Mill, and Race Course.
    • Route 2: Railway Station to Chaklala Scheme Three via Saddar and Kacheri.
    • Route 3: T-Chowk to Kacheri Chowk, passing through DHA Phase Five, Bahria Phase Seven, and Ayub Park.
    • Route 4: Adiala Jail to Metro Station Saddar via Lal Kurti and Khawaja Corporation.

    The project will cost over Rs7 billion, with the Punjab government allocating Rs4.7 billion. According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, the project will be completed by November 30, 2025.

    Broader Plans for Rawalpindi

    A plan to introduce 200 electric buses across different city routes is also in progress.

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed an agreement with China to combat environmental pollution and promote green transport during his recent visit. Following this, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved an advanced transport project exclusively for Rawalpindi.

    Key highlights include:

    • Revamp of Chohar Chowk GTS Depot: This facility will accommodate 100 buses.
    • New Terminal at Adamjee Road: It will feature a modern terminal with 40 electric charging stations.

    This electric bus service marks a significant step towards modernizing Rawalpindi’s public transport system and promoting sustainable urban infrastructure.
