A powerful explosion at Quetta Railway Station early Saturday morning claimed at least 21 lives and left over 50 injured. The blast struck the station’s platform as travelers gathered for the Jaffar Express’s 9 a.m. departure to Peshawar.
Authorities confirmed the explosion happened on the crowded platform, prompting swift action from emergency teams and law enforcement. They secured the area and transported the injured and deceased to Civil Hospital Quetta.
In response, Civil Hospital declared an emergency, summoning additional doctors and paramedics to handle the crisis. According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, women and children were among the 46 injured who required urgent medical attention.
SSP Operations Muhammad Baloch stated that initial investigations indicate a possible suicide bombing, adding that the blast occurred during peak travel hours when the platform was full of passengers.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, demanding an immediate inquiry. He labeled it a “horrific act targeting innocent civilians” and noted that terrorists are increasingly attacking ordinary citizens, including laborers, women, and children. He pledged relentless efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
