    Punjab Launches Interest-Free Housing Loans

The Punjab government’s “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme is a significant effort to tackle housing challenges. It offers interest-free loans with manageable repayment terms and plans for future energy subsidies to help those in need of affordable housing.

The scheme provides financial assistance to urban and rural landowners with minimal upfront costs.

    Scheme Details

The Punjab government will offer interest-free loans of up to Rs. 15 lakh under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” initiative for home construction. The loans vary based on location:

    • Urban Areas: Landowners with plots ranging from 1 to 5 marlas can receive loans up to Rs. 15 lakh.
    • Rural Areas: Loans up to Rs. 15 lakh will be provided for plots ranging from 1 to 10 marlas.

Recipients will have a three-month grace period before making payments. Loan repayments will be spread over seven years, with a maximum monthly installment of Rs. 14,000.

    Objective and Affordability

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the scheme’s affordability, noting that the monthly installments are designed to be lower than typical rent costs. This approach helps families manage their budgets while transitioning to homeownership. The goal is to make housing more accessible and reduce financial strain.

    Additional Benefits

Maryam Nawaz also announced Pakistan’s largest solar program, launching next year, to eliminate recipients’ electricity bills. Solar energy integration offers sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions.

    Application Process

Applying for the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” scheme is simple and accessible. Interested individuals can apply online through the PITB portal. A dedicated helpline (080009100) is available for assistance. The scheme will be implemented in all major cities of Punjab.

    House Features

Homes built under this scheme will include two bedrooms, a TV lounge, a bathroom, and a well-sized kitchen. Maryam Nawaz emphasized the importance of quality, dignity, and respect in providing well-built homes, even for the economically disadvantaged.

    Commitment to Expansion

Maryam Nawaz is committed to expanding the scheme across Punjab in the next five years, aiming to make homeownership a reality for those in need.
