PTI, JUI Reject Constitutional Amendment Draft

The leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stated that both PTI and Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI) have rejected the proposed constitutional amendment draft.

“We reached out to Maulana Fazlur Rehman only at the request of the PTI founder. Both parties have rejected the circulating draft,” Barrister Gohar shared with the media on Wednesday.

He also dismissed a report claiming that the PTI founder made negative remarks about Fazlur Rehman, calling the statement “completely false.”
Asad Qaiser mentioned that he had invited Maulana Fazlur Rehman for dinner. He added, “We’ve totally rejected the draft. We won’t accept it, and the opposition will move forward united.”

Qaiser criticized the process, stating that it was unprecedented for a constitutional amendment to be hidden from parliamentarians and that they would not support such legislation.

He also expressed concern about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, urging the opposition to unite and raise their voices.

Regarding the appointment of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, Qaiser warned that the opposition would boycott other parliamentary committees if the government appointed someone from its ranks.

In a casual conversation with the media, the PTI founder alleged that the ruling coalition seeks to pass the amendment to extend the terms of Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq, and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja to provide legal cover to rigged elections.

He also claimed that while the government had some influential supporters, they still needed to succeed in passing the amendment. When asked about the government’s plans, he indicated they are working to secure the necessary votes for the amendment.

The former prime minister emphasized the need for political unity to protect democracy. He welcomed Maulana Fazl’s support for democracy, adding that investigations into the May 9 violence and February 8 rigged elections will likely begin if Chief Justice Isa retires on schedule.
