Power Companies to Collect Increased Electricity Charges from Sept to Nov

Islamabad: NEPRA has instructed power distribution companies (DISCOs) to collect the newly increased electricity charges from September to November.

According to NEPRA’s notification, electricity rates have risen by Rs 1.74 per unit nationwide, including Karachi. This increase is due to a quarterly adjustment from April to June. Consumers will have to pay an additional Rs 43.23 billion during these three months.

The decision was sent to the federal government, and the new rates will be reflected in September, October, and November electricity bills.

Meanwhile, electricity charges for July 2024 have decreased by Rs 0.37 per unit. NEPRA confirmed that this reduction will be applied to bills issued in September.

Rising electricity prices have become a significant concern for people in Pakistan. Many consumers face high bills, unstable power supply, and issues like electricity theft and faulty meters. The agreements with independent power producers (IPPs) also need more transparency, adding to public frustration.

Pakistanis are urging the government to lower electricity prices and stabilize the supply to ease consumer burden.
