Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that one million top-performing students across Pakistan will receive smartphones, tablets, and laptops. This initiative was revealed during an event celebrating International Youth Day, organized by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, as reported by GRY News.
During his speech, PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the federal government will distribute these devices to students nationwide, including those in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and remote areas of Balochistan. He also mentioned that each province has its programs to support students.
In addition, the prime minister announced that he will personally sponsor the education of 1,000 agricultural graduates in China, aiming to equip them with modern technology to enhance agricultural production. He further shared that Huawei has committed to providing IT training and advanced education to 200,000 young people. PM Shehbaz also revealed plans to present a comprehensive development strategy for the country on August 14.
On Monday, PM Shehbaz Sharif vowed to allocate significant resources to empower the youth and transform Pakistan into a developed and prosperous country.
He recalled his tenure as Chief Minister of Punjab under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and expressed his desire to continue providing opportunities for the youth to shape the country’s future.
“The youth of our country have the potential to elevate the nation if they are given access to modern education and resources,” he stated.
PM Shehbaz shared his vision of equipping talented youth with Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence education to drive a revolution similar to China’s progress. He also highlighted his efforts to provide modern facilities to students at Danish Schools.
However, the prime minister expressed concern over the country’s current situation. Despite having ample resources and 77 years of independence, Pakistan remains heavily in debt. He pointed out that extreme poverty prevents many people from meeting basic needs while the elite enjoy significant privileges.
PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of learning from past mistakes and assured the nation would revive its hockey program. He also praised javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem for winning a gold medal for Pakistan after over 40 years.
At the event’s start, PM Shehbaz officially launched several key initiatives, including the Commonwealth Youth Alliance Secretariat in Islamabad, the Digital Learning Portal, the PM Green Youth Movement, and the AI for Youth Programme, which offers Intel-certified skills to young people.
Other initiatives included Smart Youth, Smart Pakistan, and the distribution of one million tablets and mobile phones to high-achieving intermediate students. He also announced the registration of the National Volunteer Corps.
Later, PM Shehbaz Sharif presented awards to successful young entrepreneurs.
