Pakistani Delegation Breaks into Tears During Meeting with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

A Pakistani delegation, including Senator Bushra Anjum, Senator Talha Mahmood, and psychiatrist Dr. Iqbal Afridi, met with Dr. Aafia Siddiqui for nearly three hours on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

During the emotional meeting, Dr. Aafia shared the hardships she faces in prison and expressed hope for justice.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in prison in 2010 for attempting to murder and assault U.S. personnel in an Afghan prison. She is currently held in a high-security prison in Fort Worth, Texas.

The visit is part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to secure her release. Dr. Aafia has repeatedly asked U.S. authorities to reconsider her case.

The delegation also met with members of Congress and officials from the State Department to discuss her case and urged U.S. authorities to release her on humanitarian grounds.

Additionally, the delegation appealed to President Joe Biden to release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui before the end of his presidential term on January 20, 2025.
