Pakistan cricket uses artificial intelligence in squad selection

Pakistan’s cricket board now uses artificial intelligence (AI) to select its squad. This move comes amid a global trend of integrating AI across various industries.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi revealed at a press conference that the board’s selection committee used AI to choose 150 players from domestic cricket. According to Naqvi, AI handled 80% of the selection process, while human experts made the final 20% of decisions.

Naqvi emphasized that using AI ensures a fair and transparent selection process, offering detailed records to support player choices and advocate for those who truly deserve a spot on the team.

This AI-driven selection is for the upcoming Champions Cup, starting September 12.

Naqvi also addressed recent criticisms, stating that they were advised to “remove” four to five players only if they had better replacements ready.
