Omar Ayub, Other PTI Leaders Arrested in Rawalpindi

Top Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including Omar Ayub Khan, were arrested by Rawalpindi police on Thursday.

Along with Omar Ayub, other leaders taken into custody include Raja Basharat, Ahmed Chattha, and Azim-ud-Din.

PTI lawyer Rana Mudassar told reporters that Ayub and Basharat were arrested at Adiala Jail’s check post. He said the charges behind their arrests remain unclear.

These arrests follow the indictment of PTI founder Imran Khan and 99 others in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case related to the May 9, 2023, protests.

Omar Ayub was among the accused charged with inciting PTI workers and supporters to attack military and government buildings after the former prime minister’s arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) last year.

Although Ayub had secured bail in cases like the GHQ attack and the D-Chowk protest, his legal troubles continued. He was recently booked in six new cases after the party’s November 24 “final call” protest in Islamabad, which led to violent clashes between PTI workers and law enforcement.
