Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), opposed the government’s decision to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He stated that using force against political parties is not a solution and will only increase political instability.
Fazlur Rehman emphasized that Pakistan can get back on track if all institutions work within their constitutional limits. He also mentioned that if the powerful elements understand their boundaries, the country will benefit.
He criticized the current ‘hybrid system’ for failing to produce positive results and said that the solution lies in holding fresh, transparent elections.
Earlier, Information Minister Atta Tarar announced credible evidence to support the ban on PTI, citing the party’s involvement in foreign funding, the May 9 incident, terrorist resettlement, the cipher episode, and a resolution in the United States. He noted that Article 17 of the constitution allows the government to ban a political party.
