According to GRY News, an enormous fire broke out at Islamabad’s Sunday Bazaar on Wednesday, burning over 300 stalls. The police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The fire happened at the I-9 open-air market, where vendors sell various goods weekly. A GRY News Correspondent, reporting live from the scene, said several fire trucks were there to extinguish the flames.
“The firefighters are working to control the fire. Due to a shortage of fire brigades in Islamabad, rescue teams from Rawalpindi and the firefighting team of the Pakistan Navy have been called in for help,” the correspondent said.
No casualties have been reported, but goods worth millions of rupees have been destroyed, causing vendors to express their grievances to the market administration.
The Islamabad Police have cordoned off the area and are collecting evidence to determine the cause of the fire.
“The police will conduct a full inquiry into the fire. All measures have been taken to keep traffic flowing around the area,” the capital police posted on the X platform.
“Citizens are asked not to gather unnecessarily and to cooperate with the police,” they added.
Last month, a fire in Peshawar’s Nauthia Phattak area destroyed at least 80 shops and injured three people. Rescue 1122 officials said the fire started in a small structure near the railway line and spread to nearby shops, burning wooden cabins, and a power transformer.
