JHELUM: The Mangla Dam has reached its maximum water conservation capacity of 1,242 feet, according to the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) on Thursday.
WAPDA officials confirmed that the reservoir currently holds 7.277 million acre-feet (MAF) of water. This development follows the earlier filling of the Tarbela and Chashma reservoirs, with Tarbela reaching its maximum level of 1,550 feet back in August.
At present, the combined water storage in Mangla, Tarbela, and Chashma stands at 13.316 MAF, marking a positive sign for Pakistan’s agriculture sector and hydropower generation.
WAPDA stated that the high water levels will significantly support irrigation needs and boost electricity production across the country.
The authority also shared an update on the Mangla Refurbishment Project, which aims to increase the dam’s power generation capacity from 1,000 MW to 1,310 MW upon completion, enhancing Pakistan’s renewable energy output.
