Amna Arif and her father, Imran, lost their lives when their motorcycle was hit by an SUV driven by Natasha Iqbal, who was allegedly intoxicated at the time. Amna, 23, worked at a private firm and pursued an MBA funded by her father. Who sold snacks to support her education.
Police reports state that Natasha’s Prado first collided with the motorcycle and then hit other vehicles and pedestrians before crashing onto the service road. Amna and her father died instantly, while a third victim died later at the hospital.
Concerns about whether justice will be served have been raised, as Natasha is married to a prominent industrialist in Karachi. Some fear this case may follow the pattern where the wealthy avoid accountability.
In court, Natasha’s lawyer, Amir Mansoob Qureshi, claimed she had a mental illness and left home without informing her family. He asked the court not to present her before the judge due to her fragile mental state and mentioned the family’s offer to pay “Diya” (blood money) of Rs 6.8 million per person.
Natasha appears to be receiving preferential treatment. As the court granted only a one-day remand instead of the seven days requested by the police. Additionally, she is being held in a hospital rather than in police custody.
