On Friday, the Sindh Food Authority (SFA) raided Karachi’s famous Student Biryani restaurant in the Saddar area and sealed it after finding expired food items being sold.
According to a report from Hum News, the SFA team discovered unhygienic conditions and expired items during the inspection, which led to the eatery’s sealing.
The team also inspected Khalid Bakery, located nearby, and sealed it for selling expired food items.
An official said that on September 10, the SFA launched a province-wide crackdown on food safety violations in Karachi, Thatta, Hyderabad, and Kotri. The crackdown has led to fines totalling over Rs800,000 imposed on businesses violating hygiene standards.
SFA Director General Muzammil Halipoto personally supervised the inspections and said, “A raid in Kotri’s industrial area resulted in a Rs500,000 fine on an oil company for serious food safety lapses.”
