Karachi Protesters Storm K-Electric Office Over High Bills and Load-Shedding

Karachi: Angry over prolonged load-shedding and high electricity bills during the scorching heat, residents of Liaquatabad stormed the K-Electric (KE) office on Tuesday. Protesters in the FC Area vandalized the office and damaged several parked vehicles.

Frustrated by the continuous power outages, residents took to the streets to express their anger. The protest extended onto the main road near Shafiq Mor, causing a significant traffic jam.

K-Electric, Karachi’s power provider, condemned the attack and the damage caused to their property. A company spokesperson stated they are taking the incident seriously and thoroughly investigating it.

The authorities have filed a case against the protesters. Police confirmed that public disturbance and property damage charges have been registered against those involved in the vandalism and rioting.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court expressed displeasure over load-shedding in economically disadvantaged areas. The court reprimanded the K-Electric lawyer regarding unannounced power cuts in Jamshed Quarters on Jahangir Road. Justice Salahuddin, who is hearing the petition, asked the company’s counsel to submit an affidavit detailing the extent of load-shedding in the area.
