The limited series Kandahar Hijack is set to premiere on August 29, exclusively on Netflix. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the series explores the different aspects of the hijacking and the intense negotiations that followed. The cast features Vijay Verma, Naseeruddin Shah, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Arvind Swamy, and Patralekha, among others.
The series dramatizes the IC814 Kandahar hijacking, which occurred on December 24, 1999. An Indian Airlines Airbus with around 188 passengers was hijacked after taking off from Kathmandu. This event marked the longest hijacking in Indian aviation history, lasting seven days.
The plane made stops in Amritsar, Lahore for refueling, Dubai, and finally landed in Taliban-controlled Kandahar. The hostages were eventually freed on December 31, 2000.
