Speculation about Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah’s condition surfaced after Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) launched a strike in Beirut on Friday.
During the strike, Hezbollah’s central headquarters collapsed. Nasrallah was believed to have been inside the building, but a source close to him confirmed that he was “fine.” The source also denied claims that Nasrallah was the target of the Israeli airstrike.
An Israeli official, however, expressed doubt about Nasrallah’s survival, saying, “It’s hard to believe he got out alive,” as reported by The Jerusalem Post. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly approved the strike before his United Nations General Assembly speech.
Meanwhile, Iranian media on Saturday dismissed the Israeli reports, asserting that Nasrallah is safe.
Who is Hassan Nasrallah?
Hassan Nasrallah has been leading Hezbollah since February 1992. He became the third secretary-general after Abbas al-Musawi, who Israel killed. Nasrallah, 64, was born on August 31, 1960, in Burj Hammud, a northern suburb of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital.
