The election for the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) will be held in November this year. Greg Barclay, the current chairman, is expected to retire after serving for four years.
Reports suggest that Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will run for the position. If he wins, he could become the youngest chairman ever.
The ICC’s annual conference will take place in Colombo later in July. During this meeting, the timeline for the election could be set, according to Cricbuzz.
Jay Shah still needs to confirm his candidacy. However, reports indicate that he wants to change how the ICC operates, especially after issues with the recent T20 World Cup co-hosted by the USA and Caribbean islands.
The ICC has changed the chairman’s tenure. The new chairperson will serve for three years instead of two and can be reelected only once, compared to twice before.
Jay Shah has been involved in cricket administration since 2009. He has served as the joint secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association and joined the BCCI in 2015. He became the board secretary in September 2019.
