Imad Wasim Criticized for Poor Fielding in CPL

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim, who played for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024, was heavily criticized for his poor fielding, which led to his removal from the field.

The incident took place during the 14th over of the match against the Barbados Royals. Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir bowled a short delivery, which South Africa’s Quinton de Kock hit over the wicketkeeper. Imad Wasim, positioned at deep third man, casually jogged toward the ball instead of trying to stop it. As a result, the ball reached the boundary, adding four runs.

Imad’s lack of urgency surprised his teammates, fans, and commentators. Amir, visibly upset, reacted angrily. The Falcons’ captain immediately substituted Imad with another fielder, which the crowd and commentators supported.

The Falcons batted first in the match, scoring 145/9 in their 20 overs. Jewel Andrew was the top scorer with 48 runs off 35 balls. Barbados Royals’ bowler Obed McCoy took 3/31.

Barbados Royals, led by de Kock’s 87 off 45 balls, chased the target comfortably, winning with 27 balls to spare after a strong opening stand of 80 runs.

Former PCB chief selector Mohammad Wasim recently revealed that Imad has been struggling with a knee injury for years but has kept it hidden. This injury has added to the concerns about his performance, with critics also pointing to his slow innings against India as a sign of his declining form.
