PTI could become the biggest party in the house
The Supreme Court’s decision to award reserved seats to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could impact up to 22 seats in the National Assembly. This could significantly alter the composition of the lower house of Parliament and the laws it passes.
Of the 22 reserved seats, 14 had been given to the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), five to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and three to the Jamiat-e-Ulema Pakistan (JUI-P).
Without these seats included, here is the current party position in the National Assembly for 313 seats that are notified (one seat is empty according to the NA secretariat):
Government alliance
- PMLN: 108
- PPP: 68
- MQM: 22
- PML: 5
- IPP: 4

- Independent (PTI): 8

How things could change
If PTI becomes the party of all 84 members currently with SIC, eight independents, and 22 reserved seats, they will become the largest party in the house with 114 seats.
Additionally, a two-thirds majority in the house requires 224 members, which will be beyond the governing alliance’s reach.
