On Saturday, India clinched the T20 World Cup title by defeating South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
Both the T20 World Cup champions and runners-up received significant prize money. The victorious Indian team took home $2.45 million, while South Africa, the runners-up, received $1.28 million.
The ICC also awarded prize money to the teams that reached the semi-finals. Both England and Afghanistan, the semi-finalists, received $787,500 each.
The ICC allocated a record total prize pool of $11.25 million for this T20 World Cup edition. Teams eliminated in the second round got $382,500 each. Teams finishing between ninth and 12th places received $247,500 each, while those ranked from 13th to 20th were given $225,000.
Additionally, each match won, excluding the semi-finals and finals, earned teams an extra $31,154.
The T20 World Cup 2024, which began on June 1, was co-hosted by the West Indies and the United States. The tournament featured 20 teams divided into four groups.
