Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani, married Radhika Merchant in a grand ceremony attended by thousands on Friday. The celebrations leading up to the wedding spanned several months and were incredibly extravagant. People and the media are now discussing the total cost of these lavish events.
A Financial Times report, citing various Indian media outlets, calls the Ambani wedding the most expensive marriage in the world. The report estimates the total cost of the celebrations to be around Rs 5,000 crore. This includes large payments to global stars, such as Rs 83 crore for Justin Bieber and Rs 74 crore for Rihanna.
This figure surpasses the costs of other iconic weddings, like Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s, which cost Rs 1,361 crore, and Sheikha Hind Bint bin Maktoum and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s, which totaled Rs 1,144 crore. This makes the Ambani wedding one of the most expensive globally.
The Daily Mail reported that Rs 2,500 crore was allocated for pre-wedding events. These expenses included the luxurious Celebrity Ascent cruise liner, private jets, and comprehensive security measures.
According to Forbes, the estimated cost of the entire wedding extravaganza ranges between Rs 4,000 crore and Rs 5,000 crore ($0.6 billion), which is only 0.5 percent of the Ambani family’s net worth.
The wedding events began in March in Jamnagar, Gujarat, and concluded with Friday’s final celebrations in Mumbai, Maharashtra.
