Harry Brook’s Triple Ton Powers England To 823 Runs

Harry Brook, the 25-year-old England batsman, scored his first-ever triple century on the fourth day of the opening Test against Pakistan in Multan. Brook reached the milestone by hitting a four-off spinner, Saim Ayub, and becoming the sixth England player to achieve 300 or more runs in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in 310 balls, smashing 28 fours and three sixes.

Andy Sandham was the first England player to score a triple century in Test cricket, who made 325 against the West Indies in 1930. Other English players who have achieved this include Len Hutton (364), Wally Hammond (336), Graham Gooch (333), and Bill Edrich (310*).

Brook’s senior partner, Joe Root, was unlucky to miss his first triple-century. He was dismissed for 262, trapped leg before wicket by spinner Agha Salman shortly after the lunch break.

In response to Pakistan’s first innings score of 556, England posted a massive 823-7, giving them a lead of 267 runs. At the close of play on Day 4, Pakistan were 152-6, needing 115 more runs to avoid an innings defeat. England’s Chris Woakes bowled Abdullah Shafique with the first ball of Pakistan’s second innings.
