Govt to Include Khatm-e-Nabuwat Oath in Nikahnama

The government has added the oath of Khatm-e-Nabuwat (Finality of Prophethood, PBUH) to the nikahnama (marriage certificate form).

According to media reports, this proposed change will be reviewed in an upcoming cabinet meeting, where a summary related to the affidavit will be presented. If approved by the federal cabinet, the Khatm-e-Nabuwat oath will become mandatory in all nikahnamas issued in Islamabad.

This means that Muslim couples will be required to affirm the finality of Prophethood when they get married.

In 2022, the Shehbaz Sharif-led government assured the National Assembly that the Khatm-e-Nabuwat oath would be added to the nikahnama within the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), similar to forms used by NADRA and for passports. Later that year, the Punjab government formally issued a notification to include the Khatm-e-Nabuwat oath in the nikahnama.
