The federal government has decided to take significant legal action against former Prime Minister Imran Khan, accusing him of inciting rebellion against the state and its institutions through social media.
Sources say a criminal case under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) will be filed against Khan based on a government complaint. The plan will be presented to the federal cabinet for approval, with the Ministry of Interior tasked to draft the summary.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)’s Cyber Crime Wing has already conducted an inquiry into the allegations, which led to the decision to pursue legal proceedings. Once the cabinet approves the plan, the case will likely be tried in a special anti-terrorism court.
The charges against Khan include sections under Chapters 6 and 9A of the PPC, requiring federal cabinet approval under Section 196 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) to proceed.
This move adds to the growing legal challenges faced by Imran Khan, signaling a new phase of intensified action by the government.
