Good News for Pakistani Passport Seekers

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that at least one passport office in Karachi and Lahore will now be open 24/7 to make getting their passports easier.

In a post on X, the minister explained that this decision ensures passport services are available anytime, helping people access services beyond regular office hours. This move is expected to reduce waiting times and relieve the pressure on existing passport offices.

Due to a backlog, more than 800,000 passports are currently pending, but officials expect this to clear soon with the arrival of new equipment and lamination materials.

The Passport and Immigration authorities process 20,000-25,000 passports daily despite receiving 40,000-45,000 applications daily. Earlier this year, it was reported that delays in passport issuance were causing applicants to be frustrated, with over 550,000 people experiencing wait times of two to three months.
