Global leaders respond to Trump’s Gaza peace plan

World leaders have given mixed reactions to Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan aimed at ending the war.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu backed the proposal, saying it meets Israel’s goals of returning hostages, dismantling Hamas, and preventing future threats. However, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich criticized it as a “historic missed opportunity” that could force future generations into more conflict.

The Palestinian Authority welcomed Trump’s efforts through a statement on WAFA, showing trust in his ability to pursue peace. In contrast, many Gazans rejected the plan, calling it a “farce.”

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan praised Trump’s leadership and pledged support for a just and lasting peace. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also welcomed the plan, calling Israel’s approval an important step, while urging Hamas to agree.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the plan must secure hostages’ release and lead to long-term peace based on a two-state solution. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also welcomed the initiative, stressing the need for urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza.
