Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has returned safely to Pakistan after being released from Israeli custody, officials confirmed on Thursday.
According to details, the ex-lawmaker arrived in Islamabad from Amman via a private airline, where he was warmly welcomed by supporters and well-wishers at the airport.
Senator Mushtaq was part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, a humanitarian mission organized to show solidarity with Palestinians and deliver symbolic aid to Gaza. The flotilla was intercepted by Israeli forces last week while attempting to break the naval blockade of the besieged territory.
Reports indicate that around 450 activists from different countries were detained during the Israeli operation, sparking international condemnation and protests worldwide.
Several deported participants have alleged harsh treatment during their detention. They claimed that Israeli forces harassed them, deprived them of food, and subjected them to humiliation.
Italian activist Cesare Tofani, who returned to Rome after his deportation, told Italy’s ANSA news agency, “We were treated terribly — from the army to the police, there was constant harassment.”
Mushtaq’s safe return has been widely welcomed in Pakistan, where officials and civil society members praised his commitment to the Palestinian cause and his participation in peaceful humanitarian efforts.
