Emma Watson has spoken honestly about one of the toughest challenges she faced in Hollywood and how it shaped her personal journey.
The actress shared her thoughts during an interview on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, where she reflected on her early experiences in the industry.
Watson explained that while working on Harry Potter, she developed the belief that her co-stars and colleagues would always feel like family. She admitted she carried this expectation into other film projects, hoping to form deep, lasting friendships.
However, she revealed that reality was different. Unlike her time on Harry Potter, many people in Hollywood were more focused on career goals and opportunities rather than building personal bonds. “That was a very painful experience for me, outside of Harry Potter and in Hollywood, bone-breakingly painful,” she said.
According to Watson, most professionals approached film sets with a clear focus on their careers: “This is my chance. This is my role. This is my job.” She admitted that she didn’t share the same mindset, which often left her feeling hurt and broken when her expectations weren’t met.
Despite the difficulties, Watson expressed pride in her vulnerability. She concluded by saying that even though her expectations crumbled, she values the experience because “it means I still have something left to break.
