On Monday, a significant connectivity disruption between several banks and 1LINK, Pakistan’s leading interbank network, caused widespread problems for customers trying to withdraw cash from ATMs.
The issue temporarily blocked cash withdrawals, leaving many people unable to access their money.
Due to the disruption, customers from various banks also faced difficulties with online money transfers. The connectivity problem greatly impacted these financial institutions’ ability to process transactions smoothly.
1LINK officials acknowledged the issue, confirming that connectivity with some banks was indeed affected. They assured customers that efforts were underway to fix the problem and restore full service.
This disruption follows a similar incident in August when rumours spread about widespread ATM closures across Pakistan. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had to step in, clarifying that these rumours were false and that ATM networks and financial operations were not impacted.
