Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has declared the alleged rape of a female student at a private college in Lahore a fabricated story, describing it as a dangerous political plot to create unrest. She stated that the story was spread after some political groups failed to stir trouble through protests and rallies.
During a press conference, CM Nawaz presented a student falsely portrayed as an eyewitness. This student clarified she was not even present at the college when the incident was said to have occurred. She explained that she only heard the story from others and repeated it to the media.
The incident, which went viral on social media, claimed a first-year student at Punjab College’s Gulberg campus was raped by a security guard. This sparked large student protests, leading to injuries. Protesters accused the college administration of covering up the event and destroying evidence.
After CM Nawaz ordered an investigation, it was revealed that the girl named in the reports was actually in the hospital on the day of the alleged incident due to an unrelated fall. Nawaz dismissed claims about deleted CCTV footage as false and emphasized that the girl was not a victim of rape but of “cheap politics.” She also addressed a viral video that falsely claimed the victim had died, noting that the YouTuber responsible had since retracted the statement.
