ChatGPT Restored After Global Outage, OpenAI Confirms Recovery

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is back online after a global outage that lasted five hours. In a post on X, OpenAI announced, “ChatGPT, API, and Sora were down today but we’ve recovered.”

A report by Mint on Thursday revealed that the outage affected millions of users worldwide, making the chatbot inaccessible. OpenAI had earlier informed users on social media, saying, “We’re experiencing an outage right now.”

“We’ve identified the issue and are working on a solution. Apologies, and we’ll keep you updated!” OpenAI assured, while the downtime sparked mixed reactions on social media, ranging from jokes to frustration.

Last month, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also apologized on X after ChatGPT faced a 30-minute outage. Downdetector, a platform that tracks outages, reported over 19,000 affected users during that incident. Altman admitted the issue and stated that although reliability had improved, there was still progress to be made.

Earlier on Wednesday, Apple launched major updates to its AI features. The company integrated ChatGPT into its native apps, including Siri, on the iPhone. In a significant move, Apple partnered with OpenAI to include ChatGPT in its writing tools and virtual assistant. This integration gives Apple users seamless access to the AI chatbot across its ecosystem.
