Police and rescue teams recovered bodies along the highway; preliminary reports suggest the victims were targeted based on their Punjabi ethnicity. No group has claimed responsibility, though provincial authorities have accused Baloch separatist militants of carrying out the attack. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the killings and called for a full-scale security operation.
The incident revives concerns over persistent insurgency and highlights ongoing threats to civilian travel in the restive region. Security forces are now hunting those responsible amid rising tension.
