Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), dismissed rumors that the Indian cricket team would not travel to Pakistan for next year’s ICC Champions Trophy.
Recent Indian media reports suggested that the BCCI would refuse to send the team to Pakistan and request the ICC to relocate India’s matches to a neutral venue.
“We don’t know where these claims are coming from. The BCCI has not released any official statement about this,” Shukla said in a phone interview with ThePrint.
India last toured Pakistan in 2008; their most recent bilateral series was in 2013. Since then, the teams have only met in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allocated Rs. 12.80 billion to upgrade three stadiums for the ICC Champions Trophy in February/March next year.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi chaired the 72nd Board of Governors (BoG) meeting at the National Cricket Academy earlier this month, where the 2024-25 budget was approved.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, and the Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium will be improved for the event.
