Bashir Memon Likely to Replace Kamran Tessori as Sindh Governor

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is reportedly working to replace the current Sindh Governor, Kamran Tessori, backed by MQM-P, with party leader Bashir Memon. Sources informed Geo News on Friday that the ruling PML-N has reached out to its key coalition partner. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and the top leaders of both parties have agreed on this change.

The sources mentioned that the governor’s office will likely change in the coming days. Discussions between the two political parties occurred earlier today regarding the governor’s replacement.

It is expected that Tessori may be replaced by Memon. Who previously served as the chief of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Memon was appointed PML-N Sindh’s president on November 7, 2023, while Tessori took office as governor on October 10, 2022.

In response to these reports, a spokesperson for MQM-P stated that no discussions about the governor change have occurred at any level. And the central government has not contacted them regarding this matter.

Earlier this year, there were claims that former Sindh caretaker chief minister Justice (retired) Maqbool Baqar. Could be appointed as the province’s new governor. MQM-P leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan dismissed such reports. Stating that the governor should represent urban Sindh if the elected chief minister is repeatedly from rural areas. He added that Tessori’s appointment aligned with the province’s social contract.

However, PPP Sindh General Secretary Waqar Mehdi criticized Tessori’s performance, calling him the “biggest failure as governor” in the province’s history. Mehdi urged the PML-N to finalize its nominee for the new governor of Sindh and suggested that Tessori should leave until the PML-N selects a replacement.
