Pakistan’s star athlete, Arshad Nadeem, made history on Thursday night by winning the country’s first Olympic medal since 1992. He claimed the gold medal in the Paris men’s javelin throw competition.
The last time Pakistan won an Olympic medal was in 1992 in Barcelona, where the country took home a bronze in field hockey.
Nadeem secured the gold with a remarkable throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. India’s Neeraj Chopra took the silver medal with a throw of 89.45 meters, while A. Peters of Grenada won the bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.

Nadeem’s achievement marks Pakistan’s first-ever individual gold medal in the Olympics, their first medal in track and field, and only the second time a South Asian athlete has reached the podium in track and field events.
Earlier this week, Nadeem qualified for the final round with a throw of 86.59 meters in the qualifying round.
Nadeem, a nine-time international and four-time gold medalist, placed fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Last year, he earned a silver medal at the World Championships and claimed gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with an impressive throw of 90.18 meters.
