MARDAN — Unidentified gunmen opened fire at the home of Pakistani fast bowler Naseem Shah late Thursday night, targeting the main gate, windows, and a parked vehicle, police said.
According to Mayar Police, the firing caused property damage but no casualties.
“The main gate, windows, and a vehicle were hit by bullets. Police reached the scene, and five suspects have been taken into custody,” the official statement confirmed.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at Mayar Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack.
Family Safe; Naseem Was Not Home
At the time of the incident, Naseem Shah was not present at his residence. Family members were home but remained unharmed, officials confirmed.
Authorities said the shooting appeared to be targeted, though they have not ruled out other possibilities. “Further investigation is ongoing,” police added.
Naseem Currently with Pakistan Squad
The 22-year-old pacer is currently in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan’s national team is preparing to face Sri Lanka in a three-match ODI series. Afterward, the side will feature in a tri-nation series involving Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka.
Police Tighten Security
Law enforcement has increased patrols in the area and is collecting CCTV footage and ballistic evidence to identify the shooters.
