KARACHI: Drizzling occurred in various areas of Karachi on Saturday morning, with the Met Office predicting more rain today, ARY News reported.
The Met Office forecasted rainfall with thunderstorms for the city.
Drizzling was reported in Karachi’s old city area, Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Numaish, Kashmir Road, Keamari, Clifton, Shara-e-Faisal, Neelum Colony, Sea View, and surrounding areas.
Despite the drizzle, the port city experienced intensely hot and cloudy weather. The Met Office predicted likely rainfall with thunderstorms later today.
Currently, the temperature in the city is 32°C, but it feels like 40°C. According to the weather department, mercury could rise to 38°C today. Humidity is recorded at 73%.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) released data on rainfall recorded in different areas of Karachi on Thursday.
The PMD reported the highest rainfall in Surjani Town at 22 millimetres (mm), followed by North Karachi at 14 mm.
Gulshan Hadid received 10 mm of rain, Malir Halt 4.4 mm, Korangi 2.5 mm, Nazimabad 1.4 mm, and the Airport 0.3 mm.
Yesterday, weather experts said the chances of rainfall in Karachi had significantly diminished as the weather system responsible for the rain moved away from the city.
This system, which caused unusual heat and rain, shifted towards the sea due to northeastern winds blowing 25 kilometres per hour from Balochistan on Friday afternoon. This movement reduced the likelihood of rain.
The low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea moved away from the city’s airspace and weakened compared to the previous day.
A weather official stated there is still a possibility of rain until Saturday afternoon, with a chance that the system could lower again and cause rainfall. However, the low-pressure area will dissipate over the Arabian Sea by Saturday evening.
