Three men tragically lost their lives after their car, guided by Google Maps, drove onto an unfinished bridge and plunged into the Ramganga River in Bareilly district, Uttar Pradesh. The accident occurred on Saturday.
The victims, Vivek, Amit, and an unnamed third man, were traveling from Gurugram to Bareilly to attend a wedding. They followed GPS directions, which led them onto the under-construction flyover. The car fell about 50 feet into the shallow river below after driving onto the incomplete bridge.
Local residents found the wrecked car the next morning and informed the police. Authorities confirmed the fatalities and transported the bodies for post-mortem.
A police spokesperson said, “At around 9:30 AM, we received a report of a damaged Wagon R car, likely a hired taxi, found in the Ramganga River. It had fallen from an incomplete bridge.” The identities of Amit and Vivek were confirmed, and efforts to identify the third victim are ongoing.
The victims’ families have criticized local officials for failing to complete the bridge and for not installing proper barriers to prevent accidents. They have called for an FIR against the construction department for negligence.
