Wasim Akram Declines CEO Role in PCB

Wasim Akram has turned down the offer to evolve the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi hoped Akram would join to help with cricket matters, but Akram’s current commitments made it impossible for him to accept the role.

Naqvi, also the Federal Minister of Interior, faced criticism for not spending enough time on PCB affairs. The CEO role involves overseeing cricket operations in Pakistan.

Akram declined the offer due to his prior commitments and frequent trips to Australia for personal reasons. He also noted that the position required relocating to Lahore while he lived in Karachi, making it impractical.

Despite not taking the CEO position, Akram expressed his willingness to support Pakistan cricket without financial compensation. He praised the PCB chairman’s vision and plans.
The PCB then offered the CEO position to Waqar Younis, who accepted and will start on August 1.

A Cricbuzz source said, “The PCB wanted someone with cricketing knowledge who could make decisions. Waqar Younis was chosen,” adding that Waqar will also take on extra responsibilities as assigned by the PCB chairman.
